
Marilyn Stewart Piper Riley
Marilyn Stewart Piper Riley is a retired social worker with over 45 years of experience.Her career included both practice and academia. Ms. Riley's career includedadministrative roles and providing social services to individuals, families, small groups,and the wider community.Her many levels of service included the implementation of new programs such asneighborhood based social service units. She also played a pivotal role in the inclusionof the indigenous worker in the child welfare delivery of services.
Ms. Riley taught as an adjunct faculty member at both Tulane University and Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). She taught full-time at SUNO for five years. During this period, Ms. Riley participated in the application process through which SUNO received accreditation of the MSW program from the Council of Social Work Education. Ms. Riley earned a Bachelor's degree at Dillard University. She received her Master of Social Work degree from Tulane University in 1964. Ms. Riley was one of the first two Blacks to graduate from Tulane University. Throughout Ms. Riley’s career, as well as after her official retirement, she continues to push for positive change and remains steadfast in her passion for and commitment to quality social work training and delivery of services.
